SWA Innovation HubThe goal of the SWA Innovation Hub is to facilitate and enable best practice waste management and reuse/recycling practices in the transport sector in Western Australia. It was created to provide a vehicle for innovation, targeted research and development, local trialing of innovative waste diverted products, local capability development, and behavioural change in areas that align with the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy (WARRS 2030). The SWA Innovation Hub provides both world leading technical expertise and governance support.
The SWA Innovation Hub drives the development of Recycle First Policies and Plans, business cases, fit for purpose material specifications, and companion reports in support of SWA activities. Adopting a Recycle First Policy and Plan approach paves the way for the WA infrastructure industry to move Towards 100% recycled sourced materials, driven by new “GREEN STANDARDS”. The areas of reuse and recycling that are the current focus of the SWA Innovation Hub include:
1. Food and Garden Organic (FOGO) products 2. End of life tyres (crumb rubber) 3. Construction and demolition materials (incl. crushed recycled concrete) 4. Recycled water 5. Recycled glass 6. Recycled plastic 7. Industrial ore-sands 8. Green low carbon and geopolymer concretes |
